Klarna is a "Buy Now, Pay Later" (BNPL) payment option that lets your customers split their purchase into interest-free installments or pay later. When you enable Klarna, customers can choose it as a payment method during checkout alongside credit cards.

Why offer Klarna?

  • Increase conversions – Customers are more likely to complete bookings when flexible payment options are available
  • Higher average order values – Customers tend to book more when they can spread payments
  • No risk to you – You get paid the full amount upfront; Klarna handles collecting installments from the customer
  • Included in normal payouts – Klarna payments appear in your regular Stripe payouts, just like credit card transactions

How to Enable Klarna

Klarna is available as a beta feature. To enable it:

  • Navigate to Setup → Beta Features
  • Find Klarna Payments under the Payment Services category
  • Toggle the switch to On
  • Choose Save

For more details on enabling beta features, see How to Enable Beta Features.

How It Works for Your Customers

Once Klarna is enabled, it automatically appears as a payment option during online checkout.

Here's what your customers will experience:

  1. Customer proceeds to checkout and selects Pay with Klarna
  2. Customer is redirected to Klarna's secure checkout page
  3. Customer logs into their Klarna account (or creates one) and selects their preferred payment plan
  4. Customer completes the Klarna checkout
  5. Customer is redirected back to TripWorks and sees the booking confirmation

Note: Customers must have or create a Klarna account to use this payment method.

Where Klarna Payments Appear

Klarna transactions are tracked just like any other payment method:

  • Trip Details – Klarna payments appear in the Payments section of the trip, showing "Klarna" as the payment method
  • Reports – Klarna transactions are included in payment reports and can be filtered by payment method

Supported Currencies

Klarna is available for the following currencies:

  • USD (United States)
  • EUR (Europe)
  • GBP (United Kingdom)
  • SEK (Sweden)
  • NOK (Norway)
  • DKK (Denmark)
  • CHF (Switzerland)

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When do I get paid for Klarna orders?
You receive the full payment amount in your regular Stripe payout, just like credit card transactions. Klarna collects the installments from the customer separately.
  2. What if a customer doesn't pay Klarna back?
Klarna assumes all risk. If a customer fails to repay their installments, Klarna absorbs the loss—not you.
  3. Can customers use Klarna for deposits?
Yes, customers can use Klarna to pay deposits or full balances during checkout.
  4. Do I need a separate Klarna merchant account?
No. Klarna is integrated through the existing Stripe connection. There's no additional setup required.
