Yes — but securely, and only for as long as it's useful. When a guest checks out online, TripWorks saves the card on file so that a remaining balance can be charged later without asking the guest to re-enter it. The card is stored safely, and stored cards are cleaned up automatically after a retention window.

What's actually stored
Cards are tokenized by Stripe — TripWorks never keeps the raw card number. What's held on file is just the safe reference details:
- Last 4 digits
- Card brand (Visa, Mastercard, etc.)
- Expiration date
- Cardholder name
That's enough to charge a balance or show the guest which card is on file, without storing sensitive card data yourself.
Why the card is saved
Saving the card at checkout means you (or the guest, in their customer portal) can take a remaining balance later — a deposit's balance, an add-on, a change — without re-collecting the card. It's what makes deposits and pay-later balances work smoothly.
How long it's kept
Stored cards aren't kept forever. Two things remove a saved card automatically:
- Expired cards — once a card passes its expiration date, it's removed.
- Cards from past trips — once the trip is more than ~14 days in the past (a default you can have adjusted) and the card hasn't been used since, it's removed. Cards tied to an upcoming or recent trip are kept, so a card for a future booking stays available and cards from long-past trips are purged.

Do you store my full card number?
No. Cards are tokenized by Stripe — only the last 4 digits, brand, expiration, and cardholder name are kept as a reference. The full number is never stored in TripWorks.
