TripWorks supports three different ways to print receipts and tickets, depending on what device you are printing from and what hardware you have. The right path depends on your setup.
Scenario 1: Desktop browser — any printer
If you are using TripWorks in a desktop browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox), you can print a receipt to any printer that your computer can access — a standard office printer, a laser jet, a network printer, or a receipt printer connected via USB or network.
No special configuration is required. Open the trip, click Print Receipt, and your browser's standard print dialog will appear. Select any available printer.
Scenario 2: iPad or iPhone — AirPrint
When printing from an iPad or iPhone (or any iOS device), TripWorks uses AirPrint. TripWorks supports the Star TSP654II AirPrint Receipt Printer for this workflow. Once the printer is on the same WiFi network as your device, it appears as a print target when you hit Print inside TripWorks or when viewing a receipt email.
To set up the TSP654II for the first time, follow the setup guide: Set Up Your TSP654II AirPrint Receipt Printer.
If you want receipts to print on a single page from a Mac desktop using the same printer, see Single-Page Receipts (Mac Desktop).
Scenario 3: Ticket printing — QZ Tray
TripWorks supports printing physical tickets (not receipts) through QZ Tray, a lightweight print middleware that runs on your computer and connects TripWorks to a locally attached or networked printer. This supports thermal ticket printers and similar hardware.
Ticket printing is configured in TripWorks under Settings > Ticket Printing. From there you can enter a raw printer command, define the data fields to merge into each ticket, and set a default printer. QZ Tray must be running on the device you are printing from.
Ticket printing and receipt printing are separate features. Ticket printing uses QZ Tray and is configured under Settings. Receipt printing uses your browser or AirPrint and requires no additional software.
Not sure which scenario applies?
- Printing from a laptop or desktop computer → use your browser print dialog, any printer works
- Printing from an iPad or iPhone → you need the TSP654II AirPrint printer on your WiFi network
- Printing physical event tickets (not receipts) → set up QZ Tray and configure ticket printing under Settings
