The Under Review status makes an activity's paid bookings wait for your team before they're confirmed. Use it when you need to check something first, such as a third-party equipment provider, before you tell the guest their date and time are set.

Under Review is a TripWorks feature you may not have seen elsewhere. Many booking systems confirm a booking the moment it's paid. Under Review lets you keep a paid booking on hold until your team has checked it, and only then confirm it to the guest.

What happens
- A guest starts booking. A Draft trip is created.
- The guest pays. Instead of becoming Reserved, the trip becomes Under Review.
- Your team reviews the booking and confirms it can go ahead.
- Your team selects Reserve on the trip. It's now Reserved, so it appears on your Manifest and Calendar.
- The order confirmation goes out, and reminders and follow-ups are queued.
An Under Review trip doesn't hold its seats. Another guest can book the same time while you're checking. When you select Reserve, TripWorks checks availability again, and if the time has sold out you're asked whether to overbook it anyway.
Turn it on for an activity
- Go to Setup → Activities and open the activity.
- Open Details, then Basics, then the Advanced sub-tab, and find Operations.
- Under Auto-change trip status after first payment, choose Under Review.
- Save the activity.
The default is Reserved, so nothing changes until you choose Under Review.
A few details: - The change happens on the first payment, whether it's taken online or entered by your team. - On a trip with several activities, only the first activity's setting counts. - Selecting Reserve yourself always gives Reserved, not Under Review. - A booking that's free after a promo or voucher follows the same setting. Trips your team reserves with the Reserve button, and bookings with nothing due such as a reseller paid by invoice, go straight to Reserved.
Messages and alerts
- Confirmation to the guest. Under Setup → Email & SMS Automations, Auto Confirmation appears twice, once with a REVIEW badge and once with a RESERVED badge. Turn on the REVIEW one to send a message when a trip moves to Under Review. It sends only if the activity has confirmations turned on.
- Alert to your team. Under Setup → Team → Users, choose a person and open Notifications, then turn on Trip status changed to Review. See Set up team member alerts.
- When you reserve. The RESERVED confirmation is sent and reminders and follow-ups are queued.
Examples
- A fishing trip that needs an equipment check. Set the activity to Under Review, and reserve each booking after the provider confirms.
- A private charter you approve by hand. Turn on the review alert so the right person is told the moment a booking comes in.
- Tell guests you've received their request. Turn on the REVIEW Auto Confirmation, then send the reserved confirmation after you approve.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I turn on Under Review?
On the activity: Setup, then Activities, then Details, Basics, Advanced, and under Operations choose Under Review for Auto-change trip status after first payment.
Does an Under Review trip hold seats?
No. Other guests can book those seats while you review, and reserving later checks availability again.
Where do Under Review trips show up?
In the Sales list. They aren't on the Manifest or Calendar and aren't in your reports until they're reserved.
How do I confirm an Under Review trip?
Open the trip and select Reserve. It becomes Reserved and the confirmation is sent.
Why did a booking skip Under Review?
Trips your team reserves with the Reserve button, and bookings with nothing due, go straight to Reserved. Only the first activity on a trip decides. Check the activity's setting and how the booking was made.
Can I edit an Under Review trip?
Yes. Trips under review aren't locked, so you can change them before you reserve.
