When you edit the details of a trip's lead traveler (the first guest on the trip) and the new details differ a lot from the original, TripWorks shows an Unlink Customer? prompt. It's asking a simple question: are you correcting this person's info, or is this actually a different person?
You answer with Update or Split.
Update vs. Split
- Update — replace the existing person. The new details become both the lead traveler and the point of contact going forward, and the Guest Info on the trip updates to match. Pick this when you're correcting or replacing who the trip is for.
- Split — keep the original point of contact, change only the lead traveler. The new person becomes the lead traveler on the trip, while the original person stays the point of contact who receives messages about it. Pick this when someone booked on another person's behalf.
Think of it as: Update = "same booking, this is really the person now"; Split = "different guest travelling, but the original booker still handles it."
Frequently asked questions
When does the Unlink Customer prompt appear?
When you edit the lead traveler's details into something clearly different from the original — TripWorks reads that as a possible new person and asks how to handle it.
Which should I choose — Update or Split?
Update if you're replacing who the trip is for (they become both lead traveler and point of contact). Split if a different guest is travelling but the original person still books and hears about the trip.
